His Holiness Sakya Trizin

Sakya Choekhor Lhunpo, in conjunction with Jamchen Buddhist Centre, is delighted to inform you that His Holiness Sakya Trizin will be visiting Melbourne in late June to give a series of teachings, empowerments and a public talk.

His Holiness Sakya Trizin is one of the most revered spiritual masters of Tibetan Buddhism. He is the supreme head of the Sakya Tradition and is second only to His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

Born in Tibet, He is the patriarch of the unbroken Khon lineage which dates back to 1073. His forefathers were disciples of Padmasambhava who introduced esoteric Buddhism to Tibet.

The Seat of the Sakya lineage is in Dehra Dun, India where His Holiness has established the Sakya Centre, College, Nunnery, Institute and Academy.

His Holiness can be heard on 774 ABC Melbourne's radio show The Conversation Hour on Thursday 25th of June at 11:00am. (the audio can be heard here . His Holiness speaks at about the 27 minutes "to go" mark)

His Holiness will be interviewed on the Channel 10 television show 9am with David & Kim on Friday 26th June which starts at 9:00am. (the interview can be viewed here)

His Holiness will visit Healesville Sanctuary from 10.30 am Tuesday 23 June to bless the Australian Wildlife Health Centre and offer prayers for the millions of animals that perished or were injured in the bushfires.   • Chenrezig Mantra Accumulation Event added to Program

Chenrezig (aka Avalokiteshvara) is often referred to as the compassionate manifestation of Buddha. Reciting his mantra is meritorious. From 5:30 on the afternoon of the Public Talk (Friday evening) there will be a group accumulation of the Chenrezig mantra at the Hawthorn Town Hall, for the sake of all sentient beings.   • New Jangchok Form with Space for Photograph

A new form is available for the Jangchok ceremony (PDF). This new form has space for a photograph of the deceased and should be used when a photogrph is available. When completing the new form paste the photograph over the top of the "NI".

Volunteers

We welcome volunteers to assist the various coordinators and help the visit run smoothly. We need help in a variety of areas including:

  • gofering.
  • helping with setting up the teaching venue, ushering and tidying at the end of sessions.

The importance of volunteers for His Holiness's visit to Melbourne cannot be over estimated. The lead up and running of the events are affected greatly by the enthusiasm, assistance and expertise of volunteers. It is a wonderful opportunity to be involved in such an auspicious occasion, and to help the Dharma flourish here in Melbourne.

Benefactor Opportunities

Benefactor packages are available for donations of $1000. Benefactors will receive two tickets to all events, a blessed gift from His Holiness and be invited to attend a benefactor group audience. You will also be given especially reserved seating to all Teaching, Empowerment and Public Talk events. Your generosity will help to continue to turn the wheel of the Dharma.
